Performance Training 101

What is performance training?

Performance training differs from the typical home and gym workouts disposable to anyone with a workout mat and free weights. In those workouts, you typically shadow someone else’s movements- performance training is an elevated and personalized alternative to those workouts. Performance training is even better than a personal trainer, as you are being trained by someone honed into the specific sport (basketball and volleyball) you are trying to improve within and have training and education about movements and necessary training needed. Performance training’s goal is to cater to athletes and their needs to improve their abilities, train sports specific techniques and drills, and more:

  • Corrective exercise
  • Restorative exercise
  • Strength training
  • Conditioning
  • Cardiovascular training
  • Mental and psychological training
  • Constant and consistent accountability by a qualified trainer

The tangible, visible benefits

In 1956, President Eisenhower established the President’s Council on Youth Fitness, emphasizing the importance of starting exercising at a young age for a healthy lifestyle. Over six decades later, its core purpose is to empower Americans to adopt good nutrition and physical activity. Performance training programs have consistently proven a positive impact on niche and important athletic movements. In fact, a study conducted in 2019 showed the correlation of it improving strength, flexibility, agility and speed in athletes.
